Supervision / Consultations

As a qualified Systemic Supervisor with AFT and UKCP, I offer supervision / consultations to

  • trainee therapists,
  • qualified systemic therapists (family therapists, systemic psychotherapists)
  • NVR therapy practitioners
  • other professional counsellors or therapists who would like to include a systemic, narrative or NVR lens in their work.

I offer a flexible approach of

  • one-off or periodic consultations,
  • short term, medium term or longer term supervision, reviewed at regular intervals.

Prior to agreeing a supervision contract for ongoing regular supervision, I can offer an initial free session and then a short number of three meetings if we agree this at the initial meeting. This '3-session taster' can be very useful to help judge the 'therapeutic fit'. Supervision fees vary from £50-£80 per hour, depending on circumstances, income and experience.

For systemic therapists-in-training, I can offer a lower fee depending on circumstances.

One of my current interests is blending systemic therapy skills with parenting advice skills - surprisingly uncommon in my experience.

More about my theoretical stance

  • My theoretical stance is strengths-based and mainly informed by the narrative approach of White & Epston, the systemic work of Tom Andersen and Barry Mason, and the collaborative approach of Anderson & Goolishian. I am also passionate about NVR and the ideas of Haim Omer, as well as other social learning theory models from the parenting field. One of my aims is to support the joining systemic and parenting ideas more effectively. A brilliant vehicle for this, in my view, is NVR, but I am also interested in the wider joining of parenting ideas with systemic ideas and will be co-editing two editions of Context magazine focusing on 'parenting advice and systemic ideas' in 2023 and 2024.
  • Another big interest is the idea of professional self-care to help manage and prevent burn-out. In my experience this is now very common especially in public sector work, such as the NHS or Social Care. I offer both supervision and training workshops called The Resilient Practitioner: Self-care strategies for busy helping professionals. (See article below for more information).

Reflecting Puppets Shows and Reflecting Role Plays

  • I have also promoted child-friendly reflecting teams - reflecting puppet shows and reflecting role plays. Please see articles below. A DVD is also available which includes looking at these innovative reflecting team variations. You can see video clips of reflecting puppet shows and role plays on this website (see tab noted Reflecting Puppet Shows)

NVR Training

  • I offer NVR foundation training (4 days) to organisations in the London area. This is in-person.
I also offer a one day INTRODUCTION TO NVR

    I am a member of

Articles

  • I have written a number of articles over the years. You can access these below (each title is a clickable link). Most articles have been published in Context magazine (a publication for systemic therapists and practitioners).
